In a word, AMAZING!
It’s a feeling of euphoria that is hard to describe.
After studying for so long and having the weight of the test over me for months, the feeling of victory and the sensation of having that burden lifted off my shoulders was amazing!
It was worth all the effort!
Being a licensed professional engineer and what it means to me and my career is truly better than I could have imagined.
I remember in the days after I learned that I passed I was going through my normal daily routine and kept catching myself thinking “I’M A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER, HOLY CRAP!”.
It put me in an elite class within my company and was very helpful for my career. I gained instant respect from others outside the company that I met by having the “PE” initials on my business card or email signature. I also received a promotion along with a raise for my accomplishment.
Friends and family outside the industry generally have no idea what I really do for a living. Even they instantly recognize the significance of becoming a professional engineer. They understood my achievement for what it really was.
My wife, who was truly instrumental in helping me pass, knew how much it meant to me and celebrated my accomplishment with me with pride.
I am forever known as a professional engineer and have reaped the benefits ever since.
Last, but certainly not least, I achieved a personal goal I set for myself since college. It’s a great feeling to achieve something for which you have worked toward for a long time. The bigger the goal, the sweeter the victory when accomplished. And achieving my PE license was VERY sweet.
